While my first thought is the whole big brother thing---on another level it brings up this idea that with the internet, we have put ourselves under constant surveillance. Every moment we spend on the web, every site we are leaving a footprint. And though this interconnectness is bringing about incredible things----revolutions throughout the middle east, microfinancing for art projects big and small (kickstarter), blogging our personal and artistic evolutions, resource sharing, etc, it also has possibly dangerous connotations for mind control. Not trying to be all conspiracy theory like----just a reality of putting ourselves out there for the world to see.
Or could it mean we must all be under our own surveillance... we must be sure we are living life to the fullest... not taking short cuts.... being kind to others.... reaching out to a student who is withdrawn for some reason, helping out a mentally ill friend..... Do we watch ourselves enough to be sure we are living the best life possible (not quoting Oprah here...)?
An exemplary teacher does have her kids under constant surveillance for that spark of creativity, ignition of curiosity and explosion of wonder.... because when they happen, we don't want our backs turned or our "cameras" off......
